Bundesliga high-flyers favourites for West Brom’s Diangana as Leeds update shared

West Brom could be set to see plenty of change at The Hawthorns in the summer transfer window.

Shilen Patel has the biggest task of all to appoint a manager to replace Tony Mowbray after he was sacked recently.

When a new boss is in place, there will likely be a number of player exits too, with Grady Diangana one man set to leave upon the expiry of his contract in the summer.

Diangana’s future lies away from West Brom

West Brom performed decently for much of the campaign and a play-off spot looked like a certainty at one point.

However, Mowbray struggled during his tenure and as results started to drop, West Brom very quickly dropped out of the race for the top six.

Looking ahead to next season, West Brom know they need a boost and some fresh legs in the squad.

How the team looks will largely depend on who is appointed as the boss to take Albion forward, but with his contract expiring, Diangana does look set for a departure.

He won’t be out of work for too long, though, with a number of clubs interested in getting his signature ahead of next season.

According to Africafoot (26 April), it is Freiburg – currently flying high in fourth in the Bundesliga – who are leading the pursuit, having made inquiries already as they are very interested in him.

Fellow Championship side Leeds United are also said to be interested as they look towards life in the Premier League next season, although they will have to battle the Bundesliga club.

West Brom looking at crucial period

Although it wasn’t a rushed appointment, Patel took absolutely no time in making the call to sack Mowbray after the play-off push was dead and you can understand why.

It seems as though the chief is planning to be measured once more as well, as he weighs up a replacement, although Ryan Mason is an early favourite for the role.

One thing is for sure, though, this has to be the right call ahead of what will be a crucial summer transfer window.

There will have to be work done to add to the team, which will also see players depart from The Hawthorns, and whoever is in charge should have the power to oversee this.

Diangana has been a regular part of the side, but with his contract ending, it’s not too surprising that the two sides may part ways as he looks to play at a higher level.
