QPR make Darnell Furlong enquiry at West Brom as summer exit mooted at Loftus Road

Darnell Furlong is on the radar of QPR as the summer transfer window looms at West Brom.

The 29-year-old has been one of the most consistent players for the Baggies despite a generally frustrating season at The Hawthorns.

With Tony Mowbray facing the sack, Albion have missed out on a playoff finish as they look to bring in a new head coach ready for the new campaign.

Although an incoming manager will be prioritised in B71, QPR have made their interest in Furlong known before the final Championship game.

QPR want Furlong summer transfer reunion

The Englishman started his career with the R’s back in 2015 but failed to truly break through at Loftus Road across a four-year spell.

Throughout his time in the capital, the defender went on five loan spells before making a permanent move to The Hawthorns in 2019.

It is fair to say that Furlong has been a successful signing for the Baggies, making over 240 appearances in blue and white stripes across six years.

Regardless of this success, a return to QPR could be on the cards, ironically coming as Albion target their manager Marti Cifuentes.

According to Talk WBA (28 April), the West London outfit have made an enquiry for the right-back as they look to reunite with the defender in the summer.

This comes as the R’s eye a replacement for Jimmy Dunne, who is expected to depart Shepherd’s Bush at the end of the season.

As it stands, only enquiries have been made and as it stands, it is unknown whether anything more will come from this initial conversation.

Furlong sale represents risk at West Brom

It would certainly come as a surprise if the B71 club were willing to part ways with the former Swindon Town loanee in the summer.

There is no doubt that he has been a useful asset since signing across both the Championship and the Premier League throughout his stint at The Hawthorns.

If a sale were to be allowed, the Baggies would be left without a true right-back option with Mason Holgate set to return to Everton when his loan ends.

This may be seen by the likes of Shilen Patel as a bargaining chip to bring in Cifuentes, but that is yet to be seen in the Midlands.
