West Brom target manager admired in Bundesliga as Mowbray successor talks begin
West Brom are on the lookout for a new manager, and they may be edging closer to finding their replacement for Tony Mowbray.
Mowbray departed West Brom just months after he returned to the club after a disastrous run of form saw the Baggies drop out of the Championship play-off spots.
West Brom will compete in the Championship again next season, and attracting a manager could be a difficult task as several other sides are also aiming to hire a new head coach.
Norwich City are another side in the division also on the hunt for a new manager, but there are also clubs in Germany who are targeting options on West Brom’s shortlist.

West Brom interested in Alexander Blessin
One of the names of interest to West Brom is St Pauli manager Alexander Blessin, who is a target for several clubs in the Bundesliga.
West Brom have held talks with the representatives of QPR boss Marti Cifuentes, and are said to be admirers of Blessin.

“West Brom understood to be the Championship club to have held talks with representatives of QPR boss Marti Cifuentes. Permission hasn’t been granted. Belgian Alexander Blessin, currently in charge of St Pauli, also has admirers at The Hawthorns,” journalist Darren Witcoop posted on X (27 April).
It has also recently been reported that Hoffenheim and Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga are interested in Blessin, and this could make it difficult for West Brom to lure him to The Hawthorns.
Who is West Brom target Blessin?
Blessin joined St Pauli last summer to replace Fabian Hurzeler, who moved to Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.
The 51-year-old has guided St Pauli to 14th place, six points clear of the relegation zone in the Bundesliga, in an impressive campaign at the newly promoted side.
After a mixed spell at Genoa, Blessin achieved history in the Belgian Pro League with Union SG, winning the league and cup double against rivals Royal Antwerp, with the cup their first in 110 years.
The German’s playing career was mostly spent in the lower divisions in his native Germany, but he is regarded as a manager who has the potential to succeed higher up the table.
It may be a struggle for West Brom to convince him to join from Germany’s top division, particularly if there are offers from clubs such as Wolfsburg, but there is clear admiration for his work from those at The Hawthorns.
