QPR fans urged to cancel season tickets after Cifuentes to West Brom latest

West Brom are closing in on the appointment of Queens Park Rangers boss Marti Cifuentes as the Baggies look for their next permanent boss.

QPR looked destined for relegation when Cifuentes was brought to the club in 2023, but the Spaniard successfully guided the West Londoners to Championship safety.

The 42-year-old has steered the R’s to 15th in the second tier this season, ahead of Saturday’s final day clash with Sunderland.

His exploits in the QPR dugout have caught the eye of West Brom, who are vying for a more positive future after sacking Tony Mowbray.

QPR fans left furious with latest Cifuentes announcement

Amid the Baggies’ interest in appointing Cifuentes, QPR have put the Spaniard on gardening leave, and he will not be in their dugout when the Loftus Road side travel to Sunderland on Saturday.

West Brom are in poor form

When the West London outfit confirmed the news via X, they were met with plenty of angry supporters as one user commented: “I hope all the fans cancel their season ticket renewals, and others don’t renew.”

Another fan said: “Joke of a man. No integrity after talking up the fans and how much they have done for him.”

Cifuentes could be a risky appointment for West Brom

The Baggies appear set to appoint Cifuentes, which has prompted QPR to place the former Hammarby boss on gardening leave, while he is likely discussing terms at The Hawthorns.

The QPR boss was undoubtedly one of the best managers in the Championship last term, as he steered the R’s away from a relegation that looked certain and led them to safety with a game to spare via a 4-0 win over Leeds in April 2024.

But while the West London side occupy a comfortable mid-table spot with one game left to play, Cifuentes’ management has been questionable at times.

QPR failed to win between 30 August and 27 November earlier this season, while the Loftus Road outfit have managed just two wins in their last 12 outings.

West Brom will be vying to land a playoff spot next season, so the Black Country outfit will not be able to afford the sort of poor form Cifuentes is currently enduring with QPR.
