West Brom new manager latest: Big Ryan Mason news emerges from Tottenham

West Brom are searching for their third permanent manager in less than a year after Tony Mowbray was sacked.

The 2024/25 campaign was no doubt a failure, as the Baggies failed to get into the playoffs.

However, there is now a chance to rebuild the squad under new leadership, with promotion to the Premier League vital in the next few seasons.

Now that the campaign is over, all eyes are turned towards the appointment of a new manager, with a major development coming out of Tottenham regarding Ryan Mason.

West Brom’s bid to sign Ryan Mason delayed by Tottenham’s Europa League progress

Mason has been at Spurs since 2018 and has now worked his way up to become assistant head coach.

During his time at the London club, he has been the interim manager of Tottenham twice where he has had relative success.

As it stands, Mason is one of the favourites to become West Brom’s new manager.

However, the the Baggies have hit a potential stumbling block in his potential appointment.

According to un on Sunday, page 55, (4 May), Tottenham’s progress in the Europa League has delayed any potential appointment of Mason.

Spurs’ need to win the trophy is the former England international’s current priority after the club’s dire season.

West Brom are willing to wait before they make an appointment, but this delay has opened the opportunity for more potential candidates.

Mason too inexperienced for the Championship

Given the ever-growing gap between the Championship and the Premier League, promotion to the top-flight has never been more important.

With the teams coming down being exceptionally strong, the Baggies will need to be excellent next year if they are to be in the promotion mix.

It therefore seems difficult to imagine Mason, who has never had a full-time manager’s position, to achieve this.

Realistically, while he might have plenty of potential in the industry, he is simply not experienced enough to take on such a big job.

Hopefully, after the recent delay, the Baggies will look elsewhere and try to instead hire a promotion specialist.
