West Brom next manager: Ryan Mason odds plummet after bombshell update

West Brom’s hunt for Tony Mowbray’s successor continues now the Championship season is over.

The Baggies ended their poor campaign on a high note at the weekend as they overcame Luton Town 5-3.

It was a good result, and it allowed caretaker manager James Morrison to end his brief time in charge on a positive note.

All eyes are now on who the Baggies will appoint next as they search for their third permanent manager in less than a year at The Hawthorns.

Now, Ryan Mason’s odds have plummeted after some bombshell news over the past 24 hours or so.

Mason remains favourite for West Brom post

The Baggies have been linked to plenty of managers since West Brom sacked Mowbray.

Only a few weeks ago, West Brom looked certain to appoint QPR’s Martí Cifuentes. However, these rumours have since died.

As it stands, the clear frontrunner for the post is Tottenham assistant manager Mason.

The former England international is seen as a highly promising coach and has already been Spurs’ caretaker twice.

However, news recently broke stating that West Brom would have to wait to appoint Mason as the coach wants to see out Tottenham’s Europa League campaign.

Now, according to OddsChecker (5 May), the odds for Mason to take over at the Baggies have dropped to just 5/4.

Cifuentes, somewhat surprisingly, remains second favourite at 2/1 odds.

West Brom must appoint a manager before May’s end

Now that the campaign is over, a quick appointment from West Brom is crucial.

The club cannot afford to drag this saga out, or the incoming manager will have even less time to assess the squad and view potential transfer targets.

If the club wants to wait for Mason that is fine, but they must make the appointment as soon as the Europa League campaign is over.

Promotion to the Premier League next season is crucial and every day that the Baggies waits damages their chances of achieving this.

West Brom must make an appointment by May’s end or they have failed the fans in this regard.
