Hull fans rage at Tony Mowbray appointment news after West Brom exit – ‘Embarrassing’

Tony Mowbray has emerged as a possible replacement for Ruben Selles at Hull City after parting ways with West Brom in recent weeks.

The 61-year-old was sacked by West Brom after failing to secure a Championship play-off spot following a defeat to Derby County.

The Albion have time to replace the former manager, with several names mentioned in recent weeks, including QPR boss Marti Cifuentes.

Ryan Mason, current coach at Tottenham, has emerged as the leading contender, but with promotion in their sights, and his time at the Baggies cut short, Mowbray will be looking to open a new chapter elsewhere.

It has reminded fans of the East Yorkshire club of last season, when Liam Rosenior was somehow let go after just missing out on the top six, and is now thriving at Strasbourg in France.

Mike White, Sports Editor for BBC Humberside and BBC Humberside Sport, revealed that Mowbray, close with Hull’s new Head of Recruitment Martin Hodge, was in the picture.

Hull fans unhappy with potential Mowbray appointment

The Baggies have had a difficult season, losing Carlos Corberan mid-way before replacing him with Mowbray to see out the rest of the Championship.

Despite stepping up to help his former side in a time of need, Mowbray’s return both hampered their season and his managerial reputation.

Hull fans, aware of Mowbray’s recent record at West Brom, have taken to X to express their discontent at the possibility of welcoming him to the MKM Stadium next season.

West Brom News have picked out some of the reaction below;

Undoubtedly, West Brom’s form declined with Mowbray’s appointment, but his willingness to return to the fold and help guide his former side should be commended.

While his reputation was hit slightly and his future position is uncertain, Mowbray has more than enough time and experience to turn it all around at another club.
