Marti Cifuentes odds crash in major West Brom next manager shock

West Brom are still searching for a new manager, but there have already been plenty of twists and turns in their pursuit.

Tony Mowbray departed the club after the Baggies fell out of the Championship play-off spots, but a successor has been hard to find so far.

West Brom are in need of a manager they can build a promotion push around, and their previous project with a young promising coach in Carlos Corberan could be repeated.

Marti Cifuentes was previously linked, and later ruled out of contention for the role, but there has now been a twist in the tale over his future.

Cifuentes to West Brom odds drop

Cifuentes is currently on gardening leave at QPR, and was ruled out of contention for the West Brom job in recent weeks.

However, the Spaniard has now found himself among the favourites for the role again, suggesting that there has been a development behind the scenes which could put him back in contention.

As per Oddschecker, Cifuentes is now the second favourite to take the West Brom job, with the odds set at 2/1, only behind Tottenham assistant coach Ryan Mason.

Cifuentes is now significantly higher in the favourites list than Steve Cooper and Russell Martin, who were both linked in recent weeks.

West Brom could take risk with Cifuentes

Cifuentes was a popular figure at QPR, who finished 15th in the Championship this season as they comfortably avoided relegation.

However, the 42-year-old burned his bridges at Loftus Road as he attempts to engineer an exit away from the club, and should he succeed, he may see West Brom as the ideal destination as they are pushing for promotion.

The Spaniard would be a risky appointment by West Brom, as he is yet to prove himself in a team higher up the table, and given the fallouts he had at both Hammarby and QPR, it is questionable whether he would succeed in the long term.

However, with few other standout candidates available, Cifuentes could be the bold appointment West Brom need to instil some more exciting football and return to the Premier League.
