West Brom new manager odds: ‘One of the best young coaches in football’ emerges

West Brom’s search for a new manager continues to drag on.

The Baggies are taking their time in appointing a replacement for Tony Mowbray, who was sacked on Easter Monday.

The 62-year-old won just five of his 18 matches, as Albion slipped out of the play-offs, which saw the fan favourite relieved of his duties at The Hawthorns.

An exciting new option has emerged as a contender for Shilen Patel as he searches for the right replacement.

Eric Ramsay emerges as West Brom option

The Baggies are looking for their third manager in four and a half months since Carlos Corberan left for Valencia on Christmas Day.

Ramsay has coached at Chelsea and Manchester United and was a part of Rob Page’s coaching staff with the Wales national team.

The Welsh boss described the 33-year-old as “one of the most exciting young coaches in football” and he could be set to manage Albion, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

The Minnesota United head coach is ranked at 12/1 with Bet Victor to become Mowbray’s successor in the Black Country.

Ryan Mason remains the favourite for the role at 5/4, with Marti Cifuentes second in the betting at 2/1 and Steve Cooper rated at 6/1.

West Brom need to get the next appointment spot on

The Baggies need to get their next appointment right, they cannot afford to take a chance on an underqualified option.

Mowbray seemed like the right decision but he could not achieve the West Midlands’ outfit’s playoff ambitions in an underwhelming second spell.

The Baggies ended the season outside the playoffs.

Patel and Co must appoint a man with significant experience who has the mettle to take Albion back to where they belong, something which the veteran ultimately lacked.

The aim is a return to the Premier League and to achieve that, they need somebody who can command authority and respect and there are huge questions over whether Ramsay could do that.

His appointment would be a huge gamble and while it could turn out to be a successful one, it is more likely that it would be back to the drawing board after a few months.
