West Brom goalkeeper announces his Hawthorns exit – ‘Thanks to all the staff’
West Brom have endured a tough situation this season when it comes to the goalkeeper position.
Alex Palmer departed for Ipswich Town on deadline day, in a move which helped with Profit and Sustainability concerns but ultimately left the Baggies weaker.
Joe Wildsmith and Josh Griffiths were left to fight it out for the starting spot, with the latter winning the competition but failing to fully convince as Albion missed out on the playoffs.

Hollingshead announces West Brom departure
Ronnie Hollingshead has announced that he will leave the Black Country club after 10 years in the youth ranks in the West Midlands.
The 20-year-old has featured prominently for the Under-21s in recent years but has never made an appearance for the senior side in his decade with the West Midlanders.
The Welshman took to his personal X account (8 May) to share the news, saying: “After 10 years my time at West Brom comes to an end.
“I’ve made some great memories and met some great people. Thanks to all the staff and my teammates over the years.
“Looking forward to the next chapter and what comes next.”
West Brom may regret Hollingshead departure
The young stopper was highly rated and it is a shame that he has decided to leave Albion before getting a shot in the first team.
The Wales Under-21 star signed a two-and-a-half-year professional deal with the West Midlands club in 2023, which shows his promise.
Team | Played | Clean sheets | Minutes |
West Brom U18 | 29 | 5 | 2,610 |
West Brom U21 | 20 | 1 | 1,800 |
However, he will not be showing that potential with the Baggies after deciding that his next step was away from the Throstles.
The Welshman has been handed senior experience on loan but has never featured for the Baggies and that may have been a factor in his decision to seek a new adventure.
His most recent spell was with non-league side Alvechurch, where he initially signed on a short-term loan in January 2024 before spending the remainder of the campaign at Lye Meadow.
He would return to The Church for the 2024/25 season and make 39 appearances as they finished in 13th place in the Non League Premier Southern Central league.
His next move remains to be seen but he will depart with well wishes from Baggies supporters and regrets over what might have been.
