West Brom next manager: The Hawthorns insider drops major John Mousinho update

West Brom have been credited with an interest in hiring Portsmouth boss John Mousinho as their next manager.

With the Championship season drawing to a close last weekend, Albion are expected to ramp up their efforts to appoint a new manager.

West Brom are on the hunt for a new head coach after parting ways with Tony Mowbray in the wake of a 3-1 defeat against Derby County last month.

Mowbray sealed an emotional return to The Hawthorns in January after Carlos Corberan made an abrupt exit on Christmas Eve, but the move did not go to plan, with the Baggies dropping out of the playoff spots.

Mousinho links laid bare by DOOD

Much like their manager hunt in the wake of Corberban’s departure, West Brom have already been linked with several managers, including QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes.

Mousinho is the latest promising manager linked with the vacant hotseat at The Hawthorns, with many bookies already naming him as the joint-favourite to get the job.

However, the Portsmouth manager’s links to the Baggies are currently being driven by agents, according to DOOD.

Mousinho’s record as Portsmouth manager.

The West Brom insider reported via his X handle on Friday (9 May) that the 39-year-old is yet to be interviewed by Shilen Patel, contrary to suggestions that things may be gathering pace.

However, DOOD confirmed that Albion have a genuine interest in Mousinho and things could move quickly if they decide to move forward with his candidacy.

Mousinho perfect for West Brom

Mousinho is still in the early stages of his managerial career, as Portsmouth is his first job as a first-team head coach.

However, the former Brentford player has had a rapid rise in the field, having led Pompey to Championship promotion in only his first full season in charge of them.

This season, he managed to avoid relegation with the Fratton Park outfit despite having one of the smallest budgets in the league, if not the smallest.

Therefore, Mousinho has already shown that he is capable of significant success as a manager.

He is certainly worth a shot for West Brom, as they look to hire a manager capable of earning promotion to the Premier League.
