West Brom fans shocked by official message – ‘Forgot he played for us’
West Brom are set to see a fair bit of change at The Hawthorns this summer.
After the sacking of Tony Mowbray, Shilen Patel has the job of finding a new permanent manager to take the Baggies forward at The Hawthorns.
However, the chief can’t waste too much time deciding, as attention has to turn to the summer transfer window with plenty of changes required.

West Brom fans reminded of Devante Cole
West Brom may have had two different managers this season, but supporters have watched many of the same players throughout the campaign.
There have been injuries in the side, but in addition to that, players who have been unable to get much game time at all.
One man who has been sitting on the bench for much of the season is Devante Cole, making just 14 Championship appearances, none of which were starts.
In fact, his lack of contributions was emphasised when West Brom posted on X (10 May) to wish him a happy birthday.
Some supporters were quick to poke fun at Albion, as they questioned “who?”, stating they had forgotten he was a Baggies player.
West Brom have to offload dead wood
With Mowbray gone, Patel’s immediate job is to find a suitable replacement for the managerial vacancy, ready to prepare for the new season.
However, whoever becomes the new boss needs to ensure they are ruthless in the summer transfer window as the Baggies are carrying too much dead wood as it stands.
The reaction from supporters in this instance speaks volumes about the work that needs to be done.
Competition | Appearances | Goals |
Championship | 14 | 0 |
FA Cup | 1 | 0 |
Carabao Cup | 1 | 0 |
As the Baggies fell out of the play-offs in the final run of the campaign, supporters inside The Hawthorns grew frustrated.
Therefore, plenty of change is needed and the owners have to be prepared to back whoever they appoint in order to achieve what they intend to.
Cole is under contract until 2027 and Albion can’t afford to keep paying him wages to warm the bench for the next two years.
It’s clear his future is not in the Black Country and therefore, he must be offloaded this summer.
If West Brom are serious about pushing for a top-six finish next term, looking towards Premier League football, those aims have to be backed up by the summer business.
