West Brom share official Josh Maja announcement

West Brom suffered a tough end to the season as they fell out of the Championship promotion play-off spots, but there were some memorable moments.

The Baggies suffered a difficult season as they had to deal with the unexpected exit of Carlos Corberan, and Tony Mowbray’s return was an unsuccessful one.

West Brom are now looking for a new manager, and they are seeking a candidate who can help them push for promotion next season.

There is a lot of talent in the West Brom squad, including striker Josh Maja, and the club have now shared a positive announcement regarding the attacker.

Maja wins West Brom Goal of the Season award

Maja has been one of West Brom’s best performers over the course of the season, and he has now been handed their Goal of the Season award.

The Baggies confirmed the award winner via their official website on Monday (12 May).

The striker scored 12 times in the Championship in just 26 games, making him the joint eighth-highest scorer in the whole league, and his best strike has now been engraved into club history.

West Brom travelled to Kenilworth Road to face Luton Town on 1 November, and Maja produced a moment of magic.

Taking the ball down in the box with an outstanding first touch, Maja laid the ball off to Karlan Grant, who crossed back in for the 26-year-old to finish with a backheel flick through a defender’s legs, and sent the away end wild.

This strike has now been awarded West Brom’s Ideal Heating Goal of the Season after a supporter vote, edging out a number of other worthy contenders including Alex Mowatt’s two screamers away at Portsmouth.

West Brom have badly missed Josh Maja

West Brom saw their form fall apart after January, and it is no coincidence that the drop-off happened after they lost Maja to injury.

Maja has not featured since early January after sustaining a calf injury, and while there were hopes that he would return before the end of the season, he has not been seen since.

It is a painful summary of West Brom’s season that Maja is their top scorer despite missing 20 out of 46 Championship games, and many may wonder whether the Baggies would have kept pace to reach the play-offs had he remained fit.
