Fans praise safe standing introduction at The Hawthorns

West Brom have released pictures of safe standing terraces being installed at The Hawthorns, less than two weeks after the season concluded, and fans have now praised the club and ownership for their quick work.

Chairman Shilen Patel was a driving force behind the initiative, and many have now thanked him for allowing such a positive development to be introduced.

Patel driving force behind West Brom safe standing

West Brom initially announced their plans for the introduction of safe standing in February, and those plans have now come to fruition quickly.

Speaking to club media recently, Patel explained why he was so keen for safe standing to be introduced at West Brom.

“I’m really excited about the fact that the club is going to be introducing safe standing in the upper Smethwick and in the Millenium Corner,” he stated in February.

“I think it’s been a big part of the conversation with fans and fan groups that this is something that is desired.

“We’re going to try to find the right balance to build atmosphere and give people options, so we’ll start with a portion of the stadium and we’ll see how that goes as we make future plans.

“I’m looking forward to seeing what the addition of safe standing means to our atmosphere and to the fan experience at The Hawthorns.”

Patel clearly wants to make a long-term difference at West Brom, both on and off the pitch, and a strong home atmosphere next season could help the Baggies push for promotion.

The next step will be to find a manager who can help West Brom push higher up the table, with Tony Mowbray’s return an unsuccessful one, but fans will be optimistic that with fresh ideas introduced, they can challenge for the play-offs next season.
