Premier League club want Carlos Corberan months after West Brom exit

West Brom saw their season quickly fall apart after they lost Carlos Corberan midway through their Championship campaign.

The Baggies were dealt a devastating blow as La Liga side Valencia convinced Corberan to leave The Hawthorns in late December, and the two clubs have gone in opposite directions.

West Brom crashed out of the play-off spots as their form collapsed following the Spaniard’s departure, while Valencia escaped the relegation zone in astonishing circumstances.

Corberan’s work has been so impressive that he is already being eyed up for a return to England, with one Premier League side now interested in him.

Fulham eye up Corberan

While West Brom are still looking for a new manager after Tony Mowbray’s failed return, Fulham are said to be eyeing up Corberan in a surprise move.

The Daily Mail has reported in its print edition (19 May, Verdict page 11) that should Marco Silva leave Fulham, the former West Brom hero is top of the list at Craven Cottage as a potential replacement.

Corberan’s record at West Brom

This should come as no surprise to West Brom or Valencia fans, given his impressive work over the last few seasons, and his time in Spain since leaving the Baggies has really helped his reputation grow.

Corberan worked miracles at Valencia

When Corberan arrived at Valencia from West Brom, the Spanish giants were in the relegation zone in La Liga, with little funding available, and many feared that this would be the year they went down after a few difficult seasons.

However, what he did next was entirely unexpected. Corberan injected new life into the Spaniards, who played on the front foot a lot more, and completely turned their form around.

They are third behind Barcelona and Real Madrid in the table since Corberan joined, and they were even chasing an unlikely European spot in the last few weeks.

West Brom’s subsequent collapse and Valencia’s revival at the same time highlight just how much of an impact Corberan can make, and it is no wonder his list of admirers is growing.
