West Brom want James Penrice transfer after huge Hearts developments

West Brom have plenty of work to do before they return to pre-season training in June.

Although Tony Mowbray was sacked before the end of the season, Shilen Patel is yet to find a successor to take the helm at The Hawthorns.

Nevertheless, it seems as though attention is already turning to potential incomings for the Baggies, with Hearts left-back James Penrice identified.

It’s been a huge week at Tynecastle already, with changes galore.

West Brom ready to sign Penrice

There is no denying that Mowbray struggled during his time at West Brom and ultimately, his struggle to understand his best side did lead to Albion slipping out of the play-offs.

Although a new West Brom manager may be keen to come into the Black Country and put their stamp on the club, one signing could be ready and waiting.

According to Baggies insider DOOD via X (20 May), West Brom are showing strong interest in signing Hearts defender Penrice in the summer transfer window.

The post states that Albion scouts went to watch him play several games last season, playing in the Scottish Premiership.

The left-back has been a regular in the Hearts side, who have already appointed Derek McInnes this week ahead of a huge summer in Edinburgh.

Penrice interest shows why new manager needed at West Brom

Penrice could be a strong addition to the West Brom side, and the fact that scouts have already watched him shows that the Baggies are ready for next season.

However, without a manager at the helm, it may be hard to recruit, because people want to know who they are going to be playing for and in what system.

This should be a push for Patel, urging for a concrete decision to be made sooner, rather than later, especially as a return to training will be here before we know it.

The chief taking his time does show that he is eager to get the call right, but at some point, there has to be a decision about which route the Baggies are going to take.

Then, new additions can be signed, and supporters can start getting excited for what next season might bring, with promotion to the Premier League top of the list.
