Andrew Nestor does ‘due diligence’ on West Brom manager appointment
West Brom’s search for a new manager appears no closer to completion.
The Baggies sacked Tony Mowbray on 21 April after a dismal run in which he won just five of 18 matches.
Albion fell out of the playoff places as a result and the 61-year-old’s position was untenable, leading to a second exit from the Black Country club.
The Championship outfit are now taking their time to find his replacement rather than rushing and making the wrong appointment.

West Brom to take their time with Mowbray successor
Sporting director Andrew Nestor will lead the search for Mowbray’s replacement at The Hawthorns.
BBC Radio WM journalist Steve Hermon believes that Nestor will take a methodical approach to appointing the new man.
In his latest BBC column on the situation (23 May), he said: “Andrew Nestor favours an analytical and statistical approach to finding the right person and that takes time to pour over and there’s plenty of due diligence to be done on the character of candidates too.
“It’s no surprise to me that the search is approaching the final days of May. Playing the waiting game has allowed the club to watch the managerial merry-go-round unfold and explore their options.”

Nestor approach makes sense for West Brom
The way that Nestor has approached the situation is the right way for the Baggies to move forward in the right direction.
It is vital that they do not rush into a decision on the new man and potentially leave themselves in a dire position if he turns out to be the wrong selection like what happened with the ex-Birmingham City boss.

The transfer window does not start until 1 June before closing on 10 June and reopening on 16 June, so there is still plenty of time to bring additions to the West Midlands once the manager is appointed.
The likes of Eric Ramsay, Ryan Mason and John Mousinho have been linked with the role, but none of those names will inspire Albion supporters as they all have limited experience within the game.
Shilen Patel and Co are better off waiting for a standout candidate to become available, especially given the current options, as it is crucial that they get the appointment correct, as if they do not, the dreams of being a Premier League outfit once again will be further away than ever before.
Another season of mediocrity is not acceptable, there must be progress on the pitch, otherwise it will be a worrying time for the Throstles faithful.
