West Brom new manager: Englishman now in pole position as official talks begin

West Brom have now opened fresh talks over finally naming their new head coach.

The Baggies have been on the lookout for a new manager since Tony Mowbray was unsurprisingly sacked after less than four months back in the job.

This saw James Morrison come in on an interim basis to see out the season while Shilen Patel and Co. sought out new options ready for the upcoming campaign.

It now looks as if talks are underway at The Hawthorns to finally edge closer to finding a new name to take up the role in the dugout.

West Brom open talks over manager appointment

There is a general feeling surrounding the Black Country that a new manager is needed quickly, with the summer window now looming.

It has been a lengthy process in B71, which has often left supporters frustrated as they look to see the direction that Albion are going in.

This has seen the likes of Marti Cifuentes and Eric Ramsay be linked with the role despite no deal yet going through at The Hawthorns.

It now looks as if the Baggies are closing in on one of their many targets, as Football Insider reported on 24 May that Ryan Mason is now in pole position to become the new manager in the Midlands.

The Tottenham coach has now opened talks over the vacant role after Tottenham’s Europa League final win against Manchester United in Bilbao.

Mason edges closer to West Brom appointment

The need for a direct replacement for Carlos Corberan is still needed after his move to Valencia earlier in the campaign.

After the work of the Spaniard to maintain a play-off spot in the second tier, it was frustrating to finish outside of the top six under Mowbray.

Now it appears that a manager with more chance of a project is where the Baggies hierarchy are going with Mason fitting that mould.

After working as a coach under the likes of Jose Mourinho, Antonio Conte and Ange Postecoglou, he already has plenty of experience that could serve him well at The Hawthorns moving forward.
