West Brom make Torbjorn Heggem announcement

West Brom are in full off-season mode as key players head off for international duty ahead of the new season.

The Baggies are currently on the hunt for a new manager after parting ways with Tony Mowbray towards the end of last season.

Ryan Mason has emerged as one of the leading candidates to take over at The Hawthorns.

Meanwhile, transfer activity is in full flow, with West Brom aiming to keep key players while strengthening the squad.

Baggies owner Shilen Patel has also made key changes around the West Midlands club as it prepares for the future.

Heggem included in Norway squad

One of those players set to represent their country over the coming weeks is Torbjorn Heggem.

That is after Heggem was named in Norway’s squad for their two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in early June, as announced on West Brom’s official website on Tuesday (27 May).

The West Brom defender hopes to play in the Group I matches against Italy in Oslo on 6 June, and Estonia in Tallinn on 9 June.

Norway currently lead their qualifying group, having won both of their opening two games. With six matches still to play, they have a real chance to top the group.

Heggem will be aiming to help his nation end a 26-year wait to reach a major tournament, with their last appearance coming at Euro 2000.

Heggem’s impact at the Baggies

The 26-year-old was one of the Baggies’ brighter sparks in a disappointing campaign for West Brom after finishing ninth in the Championship.

Heggem is under contract until the end of the 2027 season and will want to be a key part of the Baggies next year.

West Brom fans will certainly be hoping for a stronger season next year after narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

After watching Sunderland secure promotion back to the Premier League, the Baggies will be eager to follow in their footsteps.

However, smart recruitment will be crucial, especially with rival clubs already making moves before the summer transfer window officially opens.

Heggem and the squad will be determined to rewrite the story of last season as they head into a pivotal campaign.
