West Brom talks held with two managers, decision now days away

West Brom are still searching for a new manager.

Tony Mowbray was sacked on 21 April after a disastrous run of results, which saw the Baggies drop out of playoff contention.

Albion have been patient in their approach, with sporting director Andrew Nestor’s “methodical approach” hailed by BBC Radio WM reporter Steven Hermon.

However, it appears that they have set their sights on two targets after a new update emerged on the vacancy.

West Brom decision expected soon

The Hawthorns outfit have been careful to not make the same mistake that they did with Mowbray and move too quickly in their search for a new boss.

A report from Albion insider DOOD (27 July), via his X account, claims that the Black Country club held talks with Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay two weeks ago.

It states that he was told this week that a decision will be made in the coming days.

Mason and Ramsay come with the same concerns for West Brom

While it may be exciting for the new manager appointment to be on the cards, it is a risk for Shilen Patel to go with either of those candidates, rather than more experienced ones.

Both Mason and Ramsay have a lack of experience managing in the Championship, which is one of the toughest leagues in the world, especially to secure promotion, which is the ultimate ambition.

If it goes wrong and the Baggies are looking for a replacement halfway through the campaign, it could set the Throstles back massively in their hopes of going up to the top-flight.

The dream is to return to the Premier League for the first time since the 2020/21 season and it would seem like a huge ask under either of those managers.

Mason has never held a managerial role outside of the Tottenham interim manager job and Ramsay has only managed Major League Soccer outfit Minnesota United.

Both are very highly rated as coaches but neither have the experience required to take on the job in B71, and it would be a major concern if they were handed the reins.
