West Brom new manager betting suspended as major news emerges from The Hawthorns

West Brom seem to be close to appointing their new manager.

The Baggies are looking for a successor for Tony Mowbray, who was sacked on 21 April after a miserable run of results saw them fall out of playoff contention.

The 61-year-old won just five of his 17 matches in charge at The Hawthorns and there was no other alternative than to dismiss him from his post.

Shilen Patel and sporting director Andrew Nestor have taken their time to find the right man and that search looks to be reaching a conclusion.

West Brom appointment close as betting suspended

The Championship club have been linked with the likes of Ryan Mason and Eric Ramsay, with the odds constantly changing between the two favourites.

The Tottenham coach is the number one candidate with the Albion hierarchy beginning talks with the 33-year-old ahead of a potential appointment in a major breakthrough.

As a result, betting has been suspended on the next Throstles manager with Bet Victor not offering the market as of 28 May.

Mason appointment would be a risk for West Brom

While Mason is certainly an exciting coach and would bring a new tactical philosophy and connections to Spurs that could help in the transfer market, it is a huge risk.

He has limited managerial experience, with his only role being two interim spells in North London that did not go too well.

The former Hull City star has never managed in the Championship, which is one of the hardest leagues in the world, especially when it comes to promotion.

Ultimately, Patel and Co must have been impressed by what Mason offers, but it could backfire massively if he cannot adapt to the division and they have to go back to the drawing board in the near future.

Baggies supporters will be relieved that the search is nearly over and they will be looking forward to the transfer window with the new man in charge.

Hopefully, the Lilywhites coach takes the second tier by storm and the Black Country outfit can take a step towards Premier League promotion after a dismal finish to the last campaign.
