West Brom Championship rivals face transfer embargo as staff payment delayed again

West Brom’s Championship rivals could be in trouble after a new financial reveal.

Heading into the summer, West Brom will be focused on themselves, and themselves only, with plenty of work to be done. First and foremost, the managerial situation at The Hawthorns will be the number one priority.

However, with talks progressing with Ryan Mason [BBC Sport], that uncertainty may be resolved in the coming weeks.

Once that situation is dealt with, the Baggies will turn their focus to the summer transfer window, though for one of their rivals, things may be very different.

Sheffield Wednesday hit headlines again as payment issues emerge

Similarly to West Brom, Sheffield Wednesday are a massive club, who, in reality, should be alongside the Baggies in the Premier League.

However, mainly due to off-field issues, both sides remain in the Championship, and will do again next season.

For West Brom, recruitment has been their main downfall. However, for the Owls, their issues stem from the ownership.

Wednesdayites have made their feelings clear on owner Dejphon Chansiri for several years now. Chansiri has claimed he is happy to sell the club if a buyer comes in, though as it stands, he remains at Hillsborough.

One of the biggest concerns under his ownership has been the fact that staff and players have suffered delays in receiving their wages, and according to Rob Staton, that has happened yet again.

Staton reported via X on Friday (30 May) that there has been another delay with payment of wages to Sheffield Wednesday staff. This follows on from a similar issue previously, when employees were made to wait until April to receive their pay for March.

Should this delay go on, there is a chance that Sheffield Wednesday will face a punishment from the EFL, which could include a three-window transfer embargo [The Star].

West Brom in safe hands under Shilen Patel

Patel has been far from perfect since arriving at West Brom, though the way he has managed the club has been more than respectable.

However, heading into the summer, now is the time for Patel to show his true ambition and provide the Baggies with the tools to go one step further next season.
