West Brom in hunt to sign defender who’s wowed Mauricio Pochettino
West Brom are looking to bolster their defensive lineup ahead of next season’s Championship campaign.
After the disappointment of missing out on a spot in the play-offs, it is evident that West Brom have a hell of a lot of work to do to improve on that next season, though there is a clear priority to address first.
The Baggies are still without a manager after the sacking of Tony Mowbray, though talks with Ryan Mason are said to be progressing.
Once that situation is cleared up, West Brom will turn their full focus to the summer transfer window, with a new defensive signing on their radar.

George Campbell wanted by West Brom
With Semi Ajayi’s exit approaching, the Baggies need some defensive reinforcements, and CF Montreal’s George Campbell is believed to be on their radar.
That is according to a report from Give Me Sport (30 May), which states that Albion are one of several Championship clubs to be keeping tabs on his progress.
Montreal | Games | Tackles won | Duels won |
Campbell | 11 | 15 | 61 |
Campbell was one of several call-ups to Mauricio Pochettino’s USMTN squad, with the former Tottenham boss lauding the quality of those given the opportunity.
As quoted by Goal, Pochettino said: “We are extremely excited to work with a new group of players and continue to implement our ideas.”
Campbell has been a regular for Montreal ever since making the move from Atlanta United back in 2022, and a move to England may appeal to him as he looks to take the next step in his career.

West Brom need to be smart this summer
The longer you stay in the Championship, the harder it becomes to get out of it, and that will be something on the minds of everyone behind the scenes at The Hawthorns.
This summer is going to be crucial, and if the Baggies are to have hopes of going one step further than they did last time out, they simply can’t afford to make any more errors on a recruitment front.
Appointing a manager will be their priority for now, but transfer plans will already be being drafted in the Midlands ahead of a busy few months.
