Ryan Mason agrees to become West Brom manager as final details emerge

West Brom are poised to appoint Tottenham assistant manager Ryan Mason as their new boss at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have taken their time to find the right man after sacking Tony Mowbray in late April and seem to have found their answer in Mason.

After several days of discussions, the two parties are close to finalising the deal that would bring him from Spurs.

News of the appointment is likely to break at any given moment after a significant update on talks with the 33-year-old.

Deal to take Mason from Tottenham to West Brom nears completion

West Brom clearly believe that Mason can be the man to guide the West Midlands club back to the Premier League after a four-year absence.

The Baggies have aspirations of returning to the top table, but have gone backwards after a fifth-place finish in 2023/24.

West Brom fell short of their play-off dreams

This season, The Hawthorns club made an emphatic start to the season under Carlos Corberan, but fell away in line with his departure to Valencia.

Mowbray was unable to rejuvenate the Baggies and thus was fired as soon as a top-six finish was unattainable.

Now, West Brom are set to complete a deal to bring Tottenham’s Mason to The Hawthorns, which would be his first permanent managerial role.

His move to the Championship outfit is practically done and is now 99 per cent complete, according to westbrom.fc on X (1 June).

They state that Mason has accepted the offer on the table and that there are just the final details to be ironed out between the parties.

Mason appointment a gamble for the Baggies

Bringing in Mason is obviously a risky move for West Brom, given that he is yet to hold the position as manager.

The former Hull City player has twice held the role of caretaker boss during his time with Tottenham, taking over from Jose Mourinho and Cristian Stellini.

His proposed appointment in the West Midlands is a stark contrast to that of Mowbray, who is a manager steeped in Championship experience.

However, Mason is arguably deserving of the opportunity and can take talent with him from Spurs.

Mason wants to bring Tottenham prospect Mikey Moore with him to The Hawthorns, and he would be a shrewd addition.

If the 33-year-old can bring some more flair with him to West Brom, then he can be a success, but his appointment would certainly be a risk.
