Ryan Mason ‘huge fan’ of Tottenham attacker for first West Brom transfer

West Brom could be set for an exciting summer after they announced the appointment of their new boss Ryan Mason.

It will be Mason’s first permanent managerial role in senior football, having previously worked his way through the ranks at Tottenham after being forced into an early retirement as a player.

The 33-year-old has played a significant role in the first-team coaching staff at the North London outfit under Ange Postecoglou, and has also previously taken interim charge of affairs on two separate occasions.

West Brom’s season ended in disappointment, as they missed out on the play-offs despite flirting with the top six for the majority of the season. But with their new manager now in place before the summer transfer window has officially opened, there will be plenty of optimism that they can prepare well and push themselves into the promotion picture next term.

Mason could be set for immediate Tottenham raid

Mason’s academy background has seen him gain a reputation as a coach who is exceptional at working with and developing young talents, and it would be no surprise if that influences some of his decisions at The Hawthorns this summer.

He will have worked with plenty of outstanding youngsters during his time at Spurs, and it looks as though he has already got one on his radar ahead of a potential transfer swoop this summer.

The new Baggies boss is understood to be a “huge fan” of Mikey Moore, according to DOOD via X (4 June).

Moore is expected to sign a new long-term contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, before being made available for a loan move, with several Championship sides interested in taking him.

The 17-year-old attacker is widely regarded as one of Spurs’ most promising youngsters, and with Mason now in charge at West Brom, that could give them the edge in any potential future discussions, over what could be his first signing as West Brom boss.

Mason should use his Tottenham contacts

Mason’s relative inexperience in senior men’s football is a potential negative for West Brom, but it would make sense for the former Spurs and Hull City midfielder to lean on the people he knows from his time in North London.

Tottenham have one of the strongest academies in the country, and there will undoubtedly be plenty of promising young players who are ready to go out on loan and gain match experience at another club.

Mason is in a strong position to be able to potentially gain access to some of those players, given that he has spent the last seven years as part of the coaching staff at the club.

He would surely be entrusted to carefully manage and develop any prospective signings by the Tottenham hierarchy, meaning this could potentially become a very useful avenue for the new boss to explore as he begins to find his feet in the West Midlands.
