West Brom handed Wolves derby showdown after huge Molineux controversy

West Brom and Wolves have always had a fierce rivalry, resulting in multiple entertaining clashes.

The last time the men’s sides met each other resulted in a mass brawl at The Hawthorns in Wolves’ 2-0 victory.

However, the rivalry does not just exist in the men’s game, with West Brom Women also regularly playing the Old Gold.

The last time the two rivals faced each other, it ended in a 5-0 win for Wolves. Now, Siobhan Hodgetts-Still will have a chance to get revenge against her league rivals.

Black Country derby set to be renewed after Wolves were denied promotion

In preparation for the 2025/26 campaign, The Hawthorns outfit have now had their division confirmed.

It was confirmed on Instagram (4 June), that the Baggies will remain in the Women’s National League Northern Division alongside Wolves.

Their Black Country rivals had a controversial end to their 2024/25 season after it was revealed that the Molineux side had not applied for promotion despite being in the race until the final day.

While Nottingham Forest eventually pipped Wolves to the top spot, the fact that the Old Gold did not tell their players until the end of the season about their decision caused outrage in the women’s game.

On top of Wolves, West Brom will also play local derbies against Sporting Khalsa and Stoke City.

Stourbridge’s relegation means that Middlesbrough will also be in the division next season, as well as Loughborough Lightning.

West Brom need to be among promotion candidates next season

The 2024/25 campaign was a failure for West Brom. Despite the money invested in the team, the Baggies ended up 7th, 36 points off Nottingham Forest, who won promotion.

With Hodgetts-Still now being a full-time manager at West Brom, the pressure is no doubt on for her to deliver results.

Realistically, the Baggies need to be among the promotion candidates, along with Burnley and Wolves.

Hopefully, a big summer will see much-needed signings come into The Hawthorns to make this a reality.
