Heskey makes ‘silly’ Ryan Mason claim, names Tottenham player West Brom must sign
Emile Heskey believes West Brom could benefit from bringing in a young talent from Tottenham.
The Baggies have announced the appointment of Ryan Mason as their new manager, following a lengthy recruitment process.
The former Tottenham player departs the North London club after seven years on the coaching staff.
With the transfer window in full swing, the Black Country club will now turn their attention to signing new players.

Tottenham ties may boost Baggies’ transfer business
Mason could look to bring in players from Tottenham ahead of next season, and the connection between the two clubs could potentially benefit the Baggies.
Speaking to Football League World (5 June), Heskey named Spurs striker Dane Scarlett as a strong option for West Brom, and said it would be “silly” not to delve into that market.
2024/25 | Appearances | Goals | Minutes played |
Dane Scarlett | 20 | 4 | 788 |
“It would be silly for him not to [sign players from Spurs],” Heskey said. “One that jumps out is Dane Scarlett.
“Somebody like that would be fantastic because you’re getting a player who really should be playing first-team football and somebody who’s hungry because he’s playing for the England U21s.
“You’re getting a player who, throughout his progression, has scored goals, so he knows where the net is, which is fantastic for that level of team.”

West Brom look to Tottenham talent for Premier League success
Will Lankshear was brought in on loan last January from Spurs as West Brom aimed to reach the play-offs.
However, the West Midlands club fell short, finishing ninth and missing out on a play-off spot as fans were left disappointed.
However, the link between the two clubs has remained strong, and now the Baggies could benefit from a long list of young Tottenham players available for loan or transfer.
Scarlett, alongside Mikey Moore, are the most obvious choices for the Baggies. However, they must get it right to aim for the Premier League next season.
The inexperienced Mason could face a long season in his first managerial role, but success is possible with the proper recruitment and backroom staff.
Premier League days could return to The Hawthorns, giving fans an intriguing season to look forward to.
