Shilen Patel hand forced in new West Brom transfer update for Ryan Mason
West Brom have handed Ryan Mason the opportunity to lead the Baggies into a new era at The Hawthorns.
Mason enters his first permanent role as head coach, having been in temporary charge at Tottenham on two occasions, signing a three-year deal.
The former Spurs assistant manager will almost certainly be tasked with guiding the West Midlands outfit to a play-off finish amid Premier League aspirations.
However, it remains to be seen how well Shilen Patel will back the 33-year-old in the summer transfer market, but his hand could be forced.

West Brom have to spend to compete in the Championship
While West Brom will be eyeing a top-six finish, competition is likely to be fierce in the Championship next season.
To achieve their goal, the Baggies must get their spending right, and Mason will no doubt be expecting recruitment.
Football finance expert Dan Plumley has highlighted how the West Midlands club must back Mason, given the strength of the division.
“I think so, and it’s a decent appointment in my opinion,” he exclusively told West Brom News when asked if they will back Mason.
“We’ve said this about West Brom in the past that they’ve been through that period where they’ve had parachute payments and they’ve not got back up.
“They’ve nearly got into the top six this time around, and they’ll be pushing for that as a minimum. You do have to spend to do that, ultimately.
“You’ve got to be mindful of Championship profit and sustainability regulations, which we know are a factor.
“We know the challenge of competing against the relegated clubs that have parachute payments, but I do expect West Brom to be active in the market, especially with a new manager.
“If you look at the makeup of that league this season, you’ve got the added factor of Birmingham and Wrexham coming up, who will both spend money, so it forces their hand.”

Mason worth a gamble for the Baggies
Given Mason’s lack of managerial experience, his appointment must be regarded as a risk.
However, as West Brom strive to make progress after a disappointing season, he is a worthwhile one.
The 33-year-old will bring a fresh approach to The Hawthorns and has been coaching at one of the biggest clubs in England.
Furthermore, his links with his previous club can help in the transfer market, with Spurs winger Mikey Moore a key target already.
Yes, Mason is a gamble, but if West Brom don’t take these leaps of faith, then they will never get anywhere.
