Corberan a major frontrunner for Tottenham job amid Frank compensation update

West Brom recently recruited Ryan Mason from Tottenham as their new manager, and his former club are also undergoing major changes.

Mason left to join West Brom while Tottenham were still deliberating over Ange Postecoglou’s future, but the Lilywhites came to a decision to fire their manager on Friday (6 June).

Postecoglou was dismissed despite winning the Europa League, and his staff have also left, meaning that Mason got out just in time as he began his role at The Hawthorns.

Former West Brom manager Carlos Corberan is enjoying life back in Spain, but he could yet make a shock return to England to replace Postecoglou.

Corberan linked with Tottenham

Corberan left West Brom midway through the 2024-25 season to join Valencia, and he has worked miracles in his hometown.

The 42-year-old took over Valencia when they were in the La Liga relegation zone, but comfortably steered them to safety and even challenged for a European spot until the final weeks of the season.

Bet365 have now placed Corberan as the joint fifth-favourite candidate to replace Postecoglou at Spurs, with Thomas Frank the odds-on favourite.

The German has done a superb job with Brentford, but The Telegraph reports that Frank’s £10million release clause may be too costly for Tottenham, and this could lead them to Corberan instead.

Corberan leaving Valencia would be a shock

Part of Corberan’s decision to take the Valencia job was so that he could return closer to home, having been born in Cheste, within the Valencian region of Spain.

For him to leave six months later to return to England to join Tottenham would be a major shock, and one which West Brom fans may not be too happy about.

Corberan is also making good progress with Valencia, and many have lamented his departure from West Brom.

Baggies fans will now be hoping that Mason can have a positive impact at West Brom, and can go one step further than Corberan by securing promotion from the Championship.

Tottenham may turn to the Spaniard if they cannot agree a deal for Frank, but given that he signed a three-year deal at Valencia, he may not come cheaply either.
