West Brom sent apology by Championship rival after new EFL talks

West Brom just missed out on the Championship play-offs last season, leading to the sacking of Tony Mowbray.

Although the Baggies had their sights set on life competing for a place in the Premier League, a poor run at the end of the campaign saw them fall away.

Shilen Patel has since replaced Mowbray with Ryan Mason, in the hope of pushing that bit further next season.

The Albion finished four points away from sixth, with Millwall and Blackburn Rovers also missing out on a spot despite a late run, although the latter have faced controversy since.

Blackburn Rovers forced to apologise to West Brom

West Brom certainly can’t blame Blackburn for falling away at the end of the season, with the two sides’ last meeting back in February.

All three sides missed out on the play-offs.

However, West Brom were only able to take one point from Rovers this season, losing at home 2-0.

In October, Albion made the trip to Ewood Park under Carlos Corberan and came away with a 0-0 draw.

Their side may have lost two points that day, but supporters may now feel it was they who came away wronged.

This comes after Mike Keegan reported in the Daily Mail (9 June, page 57) that Blackburn have had to email all of their fellow Championship clubs an apology.

Rovers charged all away fans £2 more than home supporters throughout the campaign, because they were not offered an e-ticket option and consequently were forced to pay an administration fee.

After holding discussions over the matter with the EFL, Blackburn have had to apologise and have said the issue will be rectified for next season.

Mason to get West Brom into shape

It may have taken Patel a while to settle on a managerial appointment at The Hawthorns, but now that Mason is in place, the preparations for next season can get underway.

PSR restrictions have caught the Baggies out before, so they will be wary about being measured when it comes to summer business.

That being said, the new boss needs an opportunity to put his stamp on things in the Black Country and refresh the squad ready for a new push.

With good links to Tottenham, Mason may well bring in young loanees from his former side, with Mikey Moore already linked with a move.

Big changes are coming, either way.
