West Brom fans react to ‘insane’ new kit concept with Wolves link – ‘Old gold?’

West Brom are yet to release their kits for the upcoming Championship season.

The Baggies wore a traditional home shirt last season with navy and blue stripes, of course, adorning the front with the famous Ideal Boilers sponsor.

As is typically the case, the design will likely follow a similar pattern, with fans beginning to speculate on the look of their new uniform, ready for the new campaign.

With Ryan Mason set to lead his side into the season, fans have been left split after a fan-designed kit was put forward on social media.

West Brom fans react to home kit concept

There is no doubt that the supporters in B71 are always happier with a traditional design as opposed to something too clever or out there.

This saw the 2020/21 and 2021/22 designs come under scrutiny for deviating from typical stripes, which have been better utilised in recent years.

With that in mind, supporters will be keen to see the new offering this summer ahead of The Hawthorns’ 150th anniversary.

This has seen TalkWBA put forward a fan-designed Macron shirt on X (9 June), which features navy and white stripes, a collar, a 90s-inspired badge and gold details.

Many have been left delighted by the look of this kit, which certainly looks classy and ready to celebrate a huge landmark at the Black Country stadium.

This wasn’t the case for every supporter as the idea of gold on a Baggies shirt has been slated due to the links to the Old Gold, Wolverhampton Wanderers.

One fan shared two throwing up emojis with the caption “Having old gold on our shirts?”

This was echoed by another who added: “A no to the gold and that collar. Yes to the stripe pattern,” as a third said: “Gold has no place on a Baggies shirt.”

Although that was the case for many, other members of the Albion faithful were highly complimentary of the design, with one describing it as “Insane”.

Glowing reviews aren’t hard to come by, with one revealing that the design “might be the best kit I’ve ever seen.”

West Brom in controversial potential kit design

It is fair to say that there is a number of fans who are dead set against seeing gold on an Albion due to the ties with Wolves.

The Baggies’ biggest rivals are famed for their use of the colour, although their shirts have become more orange than gold in recent years.

As a result, it wouldn’t be so much of an issue for many to see the colour utilised to celebrate such a huge milestone at The Hawthorns.

This decision will now ultimately come down to Shilen Patel and Co., with a decision already likely to be in the pipeline as it stands.

Any supporters with a problem may not care further down the line if Mason is to have a superb season and make the shirt memorable for all the right reasons.
