West Brom now in hunt to sign Emil Riis Jakobsen after shock Preston exit news

West Brom have thrown their hat into the ring to sign Emil Riis Jakobsen.

The Baggies are in need of attacking options coming into the new season after parting ways with Grady Diangana at the end of his contract.

The likes of Tom Fellows and Daryl Dike have also been linked with exits ahead of the upcoming window, which could leave the B71 club light moving into the new season.

In an attempt to kickstart business early, the Albion have entered the race to bring Preston North End forward Jakobsen to the Black Country.

West Brom want Jakobsen from Preston

There is plenty of hope that Ryan Mason will be able to get more out of his new side than Tony Mowbray did before he faced the sack.

The dream for many fans will be to see Josh Maja fit and firing again, after his goalscoring exploits faded as the campaign went on.

With that being said, competition for his role and an alternative within the squad wouldn’t go amiss, especially if Dike is to move on.

That man could prove to be Jakobsen, who is heading towards the end of his contract at Deepdale after a five-year spell with the Lilywhites.

This has seen DOOD report (11 June) that the Baggies and a number of other Championship sides are also interested in the Dane’s signature.

Sheffield United and Coventry City are two of the outfits in the running, with the 26-year-old favouring a move to a club with ambitions to earn promotion from the second tier [Anthony Joseph, 4 June].

West Brom must convince Jakobsen to sign

There is no doubt that, as it stands, a side like Sheffield United have a better chance of being promoted to the Premier League next season.

As a result, they are likely to have a better bargaining chip with the Preston striker if they are to make an approach for his signing.

With that being said, the Baggies have the prospect of playing a key role in the Mason project in B71 ahead of his debut campaign as head coach.

This in itself could be enough to tempt Jakobsen into a move to The Hawthorns, although it will certainly make for an interesting transfer saga.
