Italian newspaper shares fresh Heggem exit update as West Brom worry increases
Torbjorn Heggem could be in line for a West Brom exit just one year after he joined.
The Norwegian centre back made the switch to The Hawthorns from Swedish side Brommapojkarna last summer, but there are growing fears that Heggem’s time at West Brom could be nearing its close.
He has been an excellent addition so far, having failed to start just one league game this past season and providing a reliable presence at the heart of the defence.
Heggem would likely have been one of the players who Ryan Mason would have hoped to build his team around, but it looks as though the former Tottenham coach may no longer have that opportunity.

Bologna eye a move for Heggem
Heggem’s performances this season have caught the eye at West Brom, but they have also seemingly attracted attention elsewhere this summer.
Serie A side Bologna are reportedly interested in bringing the 26-year-old to Italy, according to the print edition of Corriere di Bologna (12 June, pg.12).
Bologna are understood to be keen on adding to their defensive ranks ahead of next season, having narrowly missed out on qualification for European football this term.
Torbjorn Heggem | Championship stats (2024/25) |
Appearences | 45 |
Goals | 1 |
Assists | 2 |
Clean Sheets | 13 |
Tackles per game | 1.6 |
Clearences per game | 5.4 |
They have a desire to sign players who have a strong resale value and could net them a significant profit in the future, which has drawn them towards Heggem.
The Baggies man is one of several defenders that Bologna are lining up as potential options, with the other names coming from both within Italy and abroad.
Heggem would be a big loss for West Brom
Mason will be expected to oversee plenty of changes at West Brom in the next few months, as the 33-year-old begins to work towards the team that he wants.
However, as with any new manager, he will surely be looking to rely on some of the more dependable players from last season’s squad to ensure there is some level of continuity at the club.
Heggem would have been crucial for Mason after the season he has had. He has arguably already become one of the Championship’s most consistent defenders, and a player like that can be crucial when it comes to driving the standards of his teammates, both in games and on the training pitch.
He has been an excellent piece of business from the West Midlands outfit, having arrived for just £500,000, and they will surely now be desperate to secure themselves a big fee if he does depart.
