West Brom show brutal side as long-serving ace released from The Hawthorns

West Brom Women need a massive overhaul this summer after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign.

The Baggies finished seventh in the table, 36 points off the promotion spots.

This is despite money being pumped into the team, with Siobhan Hodgetts-Still becoming West Brom’s first full-time manager in February.

Now, Albion Women have taken drastic action with numerous players released from The Hawthorns.

Mariam Mahmood tops West Brom’s summer exits

West Brom Women have had multiple long-time servants at the club.

Captain Hannah George has been at the Baggies since 2018 and has overseen plenty of change at the Black Country club.

Another star who had been at West Brom for a considerable amount of time was Mariam Mahmood.

The attacker came through the academy and made over 80 first-team appearances for the Baggies.

Mahmood finished as West Brom’s top scorer in the 2022/23 campaign and netted a further seven goals in the following campaign.

Now, as confirmed by West Brom’s official website on Thursday (12 June), the attacker has been released after her contract expired.

Izzie Whittick has also departed, while Maddie Oliver has returned to Manchester City.

West Brom remain in talks with Ali Miller, owing to her international futsal commitments.

West Brom must be ruthless if they are to compete for promotion

As sad as it is to see a long-time servant like Mahmood leave, West Brom must be ruthless if they are to move up the table.

The Baggies were uncomfortably close to the foot of the division this season, as they finished just one point off Sporting Khalsa, who ended their campaign third from bottom.

West Brom underperformed last season

With West Brom set to play Wolves next season, Hodgetts-Still has to be ruthless if her side are to compete with their Black Country rivals.

Hopefully some signings will now be made over the coming weeks to ensure the West Midlands side are in a promotion battle next season.
