West Brom make new Aston Villa blunder after The Hawthorns announcement

West Brom are full of optimism following the appointment of Ryan Mason.

The Baggies’ board remained patient in their search for a new manager after the dismissal of Tony Mowbray in the latter stages of the season.

West Brom’s new boss has a reputation for being excellent at developing young players, and that will surely stand him in good stead to get the best out of the likes of Tom Fellows and Isaac Price.

This campaign ultimately proved to be a letdown for the West Midlands outfit, but there is hope that they will be able to mount a genuine promotion challenge next season.

The positivity will start well before the season begins at The Hawthorns, though.

West Brom schedule charity match along England game

West Brom announced a Clash of the Legends match on Friday (13 June), with former stars such as Chris Brunt, James Morrison and Claudio Yacob all set to take part in the game, which is being played in support of The Albion Foundation.

However, for all the positivity surrounding the Baggies at the moment, they made a major blunder with this latest announcement.

The match will be part of Albion’s 125th anniversary celebrations in September, and will take on a ‘Home Nations vs Rest of the World’ format.

However, while the event is sure to raise a substantial amount of money for what is a fantastic cause, Shilen Patel and Co. have made a crucial mistake in scheduling the game for 6 September – the same day that England take on Andorra at Villa Park.

West Brom have failed to maximise the event’s potential

While West Brom should be praised for organising an event which is sure to make plenty of money for their charity, it’s hard to argue against the fact that their poor blunder has seen them fail to maximise the event’s potential.

The Hawthorns and Villa Park are only separated by around four miles, and with England due to line up in a World Cup qualifier in the evening, attention will undoubtedly be diverted away from the Baggies’ charity contest.

Had the game been arranged for a different date, or even just the day after, it could have been an even bigger success for the club and their charity arm.
