West Brom ‘cannot fall into Mikey Moore trap’ amid latest transfer update

West Brom are the favourites to complete a loan deal for Tottenham ace Mikey Moore.

The Baggies are competing with Birmingham City to sign Moore on loan, but it’s believed that the Tottenham striker would prefer to work alongside Ryan Mason.

It’s looking increasingly likely that Spurs will loan out Moore for the season, as their new boss Thomas Frank is lining up fresh Tottenham signings in attacking positions.

Even so, Mason should take care not to fall into a common trap if he does bring the teenage frontman to The Hawthorns.

Baggies should take care not to over-rely on youngsters

There’s a lot of hype surrounding Moore.

He became the youngest ever first-team Tottenham player when he was handed his debut at 16 years old.

He scored his first goal for Tottenham in the Europa League this season, aged 17. In doing so, he became the youngest ever Englishman to score in a major European competition.

EFL pundit Lee Hendrie has urged Mason to complete the deal and get Moore in his Baggies squad.

However, West Brom fans should hope there’s someone in his ear reminding him that the striker is still only 17 years old.

If Mason does complete the deal, he should take care to complement this player with other strikers who have more experience at Championship level.

Mason should remain in the market for proven forwards

Loaning youngsters from the Premier League can be hit or miss.

Sometimes, they hit the ground running. On other occasions, they struggle with the intensity of first-team football at this level.

While Moore has undeniable potential, this loan deal remains a gamble.

Mason would be foolish to rely on Moore to provide enough goals to launch West Brom toward the Premier League. That would be too much pressure for any 17-year-old.

He should do all he can to get Moore in his squad, but his hunt for new forwards shouldn’t stop there.

The acquisition of Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland at West Brom would be a great addition to the dressing room, but he’s only proven in Scotland.

If Mason could find another forward with a proven pedigree for scoring goals in the second tier, he may then have enough firepower to fuel a sustained promotion charge next season.
