West Brom to pull off impressive deal for Klopp ‘soldier’ at Liverpool – Exclusive

West Brom could be set to sign a Liverpool star this summer.

Shilen Patel and Co. are dreaming of a return to the Premier League but their chances were dashed last season by a poor run of form in the latter stages.

However, former Tottenham coach Ryan Mason was appointed at The Hawthorns and his ultimate ambition will be to lead Albion back to the big time, after what will be five seasons in the Championship.

They need top-quality talent to do that, perhaps even with top-flight experience, and they could sanction a big move.

West Brom tipped for Phillips move as Liverpool exit mooted

West Brom have been linked with a move for Liverpool defender Nat Phillips, who was a favourite of Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

The German could call upon the 28-year-old whenever he needed, due to injury, and he helped the Reds earn Champions League qualification in their injury-decimated 2020-21 campaign.

Famous commentator Ian Darke told Liverpool News that a move to a Championship club that are fighting for promotion, like the Baggies, would be perfect for Phillips.

He said: “I think he’s a great old soldier, isn’t he? I remember he had to play quite a lot of games when they had a lot of injury problems at the back and he did okay for Klopp.

“I think he is a very fine signing for any team in the Championship, especially those who are looking to make a promotion or a playoff run. Of whom, West Brom would certainly be one.”

Phillips would be a great addition for West Brom

Phillips has worked with one of the best coaches in the game in Klopp and some of the best defenders, players like Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.

He would bring valuable experience to the Black Country club and his signature could be a huge boost in a promotion race.

He spent last season on loan with second-tier relegation strugglers Derby County, where he excelled, but his level is higher than that.

It would be a real sign of ambition from Bilkul Football if they could tempt Phillips to make the move to the West Midlands and would set up Mason perfectly for his first stint as a manager.

With just one year left on his contract at Anfield and no chance of a first-team berth under Arne Slot, the B71 outfit would surely have no trouble convincing the Reds to part ways with the 28-year-old.

It seems like a no-brainer for both parties, if the fee is right.
