Birmingham want ex-West Brom star with defender transfer now on cards

West Brom supporters are waiting patiently for Ryan Mason to get going in his summer transfer business.

After the disappointment of the end of last season, Shilen Patel is hoping some young blood can push the Baggies forward where Tony Mowbray struggled.

With promotion to the Premier League always the goal, there is the added pressure of Birmingham City having returned to the Championship.

Both sides will be eager for bragging rights, and the Blues are turning to a former Albion man to help them in their aims.

Birmingham keen on Craig Dawson

West Brom are yet to get started in the summer transfer window, but Mason is expected to use some of his links at Tottenham to bring some up-and-coming loanees to the Black Country.

With the right experience surrounding those exciting players, if the balance is struck, it could well pay off for the Albion.

Chris Davies, however, seems to be targeting the experience more at this stage.

Alan Nixon has reported via his Patreon (22 June) that Birmingham are one of the sides who are interested in recruiting Craig Dawson this summer.

The 35-year-old has left Wolves after his contract expired at the end of the campaign and could now be looking to get a third West Midlands club on his resume.

Derby County and Wrexham are also said to be interested in the defender.

Dawson to reunite with West Brom

With all three interested sides, Championship teams, it looks as though Dawson could be set to revisit The Hawthorns next season.

Dawson handed in a transfer request after seven years with the Baggies.

After handing in a transfer request and refusing to go on a pre-season tour with West Brom, it’s fair to say the defender isn’t the most popular man in the Black Country.

If he returns in a Birmingham shirt, he will no doubt be subject to even more stick than first expected.

West Brom are looking ahead to a new era now, and if they can have a well-oiled side to beat their rivals, they will surely be the last ones laughing.
