Lawrence Shankland ‘to pass medical’ as West Brom make move

West Brom are keen on signing a striker this summer and Hearts ace Lawrence Shankland is a transfer target.

Dr Rajpal Brar, an injury expert, has assessed the Scotland international’s fitness from last season ahead of a potential medical.

The 29-year-old is on the back of an underwhelming season, scoring just four league goals in 28 games.

Shankland to clear his medical despite his calf injury

The Baggies would want to assess Shankland’s calf injury before deciding on signing him, according to Dr Brar.

However, this is not expected to cause any issues with him clearing his medical ahead of a potential move to The Hawthorns.

West Brom are keen on Shankland and even have an offer on the table for him, but have to fend off competition from Saudi clubs.

Speaking exclusively with West Brom News, Dr Brar, a specialist in Physical Therapy and a Sports Scientist, said: “West Brom may want to gauge his calf situation and if there are any knock-on effects.

He missed a few games last season because of it.

This seemed to be a Grade 2 injury that kept him out for around three weeks.

Despite that, I don’t see him having issues clearing his medical.

West Brom should look to secure Shankland’s services

Despite Shankland’s underwhelming 2024/25 season, where he scored nine goals in 43 games for Hearts in all competitions, his signing as a free agent would be a coup for West Brom.

The 29-year-old’s prior campaigns, with 28 and 31 goals, prove his prolific scoring ability.

His versatility as a striker or number ten, combined with 138 goals across Scottish clubs like Ayr United and Dundee United, showcases his potential to bolster the Baggies’ attack.

Under Ryan Mason, Shankland’s experience and goal-scoring pedigree could reignite, making him a low-risk, high-reward addition for their promotion push.
