Ryan Mason works on several West Brom transfers ahead of pre-season return, Phillips close

Ryan Mason is already working hard on transfers before his West Brom squad returns for pre-season, with Nat Phillips likely to be the first.

The West Brom manager is yet to seal any new deals since being appointed earlier this summer, leaving his coaching role at Tottenham behind.

However, that’s about to change very soon, with Phillips to swap Anfield for The Hawthorns.

Several West Brom transfers expected before pre-season

Most of West Brom’s squad are due to return to training on Wednesday (25 June), where they will meet Mason face-to-face for the first time.

Liverpool defender Phillips is set to be the first signing, with one year left on his deal in Merseyside.

John Percy has reported that other transfers are already being worked on ahead of the return to training under their new manager.

Lawrence Shankland could be one of these deals. The Hearts striker is available on a free transfer with his contract expiring, and has been in talks with the Baggies for a while.

Mason has also been linked with several Tottenham sensations, Mikey Moore being top of the list.

Mason set for bright start in the transfer market

This is Mason’s first transfer window in a managerial role, and it could be a big week for him if he finalises several deals around pre-season starting.

Phillips has experience at the highest level, featuring under Jurgen Klopp in the Champions League.

The defender was on loan at Derby County last season, but has attracted interest from around the Championship, with the Baggies coming out on top, it seems.

The signing of Shankland has been on the radar for a while now, and Baggies fans would surely like to see that one get over the line soon.

The striker has an impressive scoring record in Scotland, and it will be hoped that this can translate to goals in the Championship, should a deal be finalised.

Moore is only 17, but has bags of potential, and given that Mason knows him from his time as assistant manager at Spurs, it is hoped that these connections can be used to seal a loan move.

The West Brom squad will be looking forward to meeting their manager in the flesh this week, especially if there are new signings to welcome as well.
