Steve Hermon shares Barry Bannan transfer update after West Brom news

West Brom fans were split after hearing news of a potential swoop for Barry Bannan.

The 35-year-old midfielder is soon to be available on a free transfer as his contract at Sheffield Wednesday expires, with an offer said to be on the table from The Hawthorns.

However, some Baggies fans weren’t sold on the idea of signing Bannan, suggesting the Albion should be targeting young players with better sell-on value.

These fans might be interested to hear Steve Hermon’s update on the potential transfer.

BBC journalist rubbishes idea of Bannan moving to West Brom

Hermon, who is the Baggies commentator for BBC Radio WM, says that rumours linking Bannan with a move to West Brom are wide of the mark.

Posting on X, he told West Brom fans to move on from debating whether Bannan would be a good signing, with zero plans to offer him a contract.

Indeed, the Albion have displayed a clear transfer policy to move on from older players and target younger stars, so if the outgoing John Swift had been replaced with Bannan, questions would have been asked.

Big transfer window needed if West Brom are to fight for promotion

It’s a summer of ‘out with the old, in with the new’ at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies have hired 34-year-old Ryan Mason as manager, with established stars like Swift, Semi Ajayi, and Grady Diangana being released.

The transfer window has started well with the signing of Nat Phillips. The centre-half has experience at the highest level with Liverpool and will strengthen the Baggies’ defence.

In attacking positions, Mason wants Hearts forward Lawrence Shankland and potentially could land teenage star Mikey Moore on loan from Tottenham.

If Mason can complete these deals and seal a couple more, he could be in a great position to challenge for promotion next season.

There are some great sides to compete with this year, but the Baggies boss is on the verge of creating an exciting new-look team.
