West Brom ‘can land major Man United talent’ after Evans appointment news

Jonny Evans established himself as one of West Brom’s best defenders in the Premier League era, but he has now announced his retirement from playing.

Evans returned to boyhood club Manchester United as a backup to finish his glittering career, having departed Leicester City in 2023.

West Brom enjoyed three years of Evans between 2015 and 2018 after he fell down the pecking order at United, and he was outstanding despite playing in an inconsistent side, which was eventually relegated.

Evans has now landed a new role, and it is one which could benefit Ryan Mason next season.

Evans becomes Man United head of loans

Evans has now retired from football, but will still remain in the Premier League with Man United as their head of loans and pathways.

The 37-year-old knows all too well about how difficult it is to break into the first team from the academy, having embarked on loan spells to Royal Antwerp and Sunderland during his younger days at United.

Evans then eventually left for West Brom, and thrived at The Hawthorns as he was given a key role, and even became captain, taking the armband from Darren Fletcher in 2017.

With Evans now in a new role, Mason will hope that his affinity for West Brom means that some business can now take place between the two clubs.

West Brom can sign Man United talents on loan

Man United have a lot of top-quality young talents in their ranks who may struggle for a first-team spot, and many could benefit from a loan to the Championship.

With Evans enjoying his spell at The Hawthorns, West Brom may now hope to utilise their good relationship with him to gain access to some of United’s best talents for a loan spell.

Shea Lacey and Chido Obi are two of many options who could both benefit from a loan, as well as helping improve the West Brom squad.

If Mason is keen on any of these talents, then Evans could have a major say in where they end up on loan, and West Brom could find themselves in an advantageous position.

Fletcher, Evans and Ben Foster are three of several players who appeared for both United and West Brom, and more could follow in the future.
