Lawrence Shankland reaches agreement amid West Brom transfer links

West Brom have been among the clubs to be linked with Scotland striker Lawrence Shankland this summer.

The 29-year-old was available on a free transfer as his deal at Hearts expired on 30 June.

He’s been a consistent player for the Scottish side since joining them from Belgian club Beerschot in 2022.

Shankland makes decision to sign new deal at Hearts

According to Fabrizio Romano, Shankland had big-money offers this summer as he was available on a free transfer.

Clubs from abroad were also keen on signing the striker and he certainly was a man in demand.

However, he decided to snub all the offers that arrived at his door in order to commit his future to Hearts.

He appeared all set to leave the SPFL outfit and publicly stated that he would be parting ways with them.

The Baggies will now have to look at alternatives as he won’t be moving to The Hawthorns.

West Brom must look to sign a striker similar to Shankland

Shankland would have been an excellent signing for West Brom due to his proven goal-scoring prowess, with 68 goals in 137 appearances for Hearts, including 31 in the 2023-24 season.

His ability to score consistently, even in a less prolific 2024-25 campaign and his experience as a Scotland international with 16 caps, would have added depth and reliability to a striker position plagued by injuries.

Shankland’s versatility as a No. 10 and leadership as Hearts’ captain align with Ryan Mason’s attacking system.

With him staying at Hearts, the Baggies should target a similar proven, physical striker who offers Championship experience and goal-scoring nous to bolster their promotion push.
