Ex-West Brom star Salomon Rondon agrees terms to sign for La Liga club

Salomon Rondon has secured his latest move as the ex-West Brom striker continues to thrive.

Spending last season with Pachuca in Liga MX, the top division of Mexico, the Venezuelan legend fired in 16 goals and captained the side at the Club World Cup.

In what is the latest move in a fascinating career, Rondon has now decided to return to La Liga – where he spent two years with Malaga from 2010 to 2012.

Real Oviedo announce Rondon signing

Rondon started his career in Venezuela with Aragua, before moving to Spain and spending four seasons with Las Palmas, and then Malaga.

A stint in Russia with Rubin Kazan and Zenit Saint Petersburg followed, before the striker signed for West Brom in 2015.

A certified no-nonsense number nine, Rondon enjoyed the Premier League. 28 goals for the forward established himself as a cult-hero for the Baggies before moving on to Newcastle United on loan.

Spells in China, Russia, England, Argentina, and Mexico, would follow. And the striker’s latest move will be to join newly promoted La Liga team, Real Oviedo.

In an announcement, the club said that they have reached an agreement with Pachuca for Rondon to join on loan for the 2025/26 season.

Oviedo enjoyed a dramatic promotion, beating CD Mirandes 3-2 on aggregate in extra time, after former Arsenal hero Santi Cazorla had scored the opener.

Next season will mark the first time since 2001 that the club have played in Spain’s first division. Rondon follows the attacking signing of Ilyas Chaira, who arrived from Girona earlier in the window.

Rondon continues to defy age

Rondon has enjoyed an interesting career, to say the least. Spanning over seven countries and almost 600 appearances, the Venezuelan is showing no sign of stopping.

Incredibly, the 35-year-old still starts regularly for his country too, for who he captains and has scored 46 goals.

While Real Oviedo already make for a great story – for which football fans will be paying close attention – Rondon’s arrival will surely spark extra interest for fans of the Baggies, who will be keen to see their old striker still thriving.
