Aune Heggebo lands in Austria as West Brom medical update emerges

West Brom are expected to seal the signing of Aune Heggebo in the coming days.

The Baggies have agreed a £4.75million deal with Eliteserien side Brann that will see the striker join up with Ryan Mason’s squad.

Heggebo will become West Brom’s second signing of the summer after Nat Phillips was signed from Liverpool for up to £3m.

And Mason will hope the striker isn’t the last, with the 34-year-old ready to lead a rebuild at The Hawthorns, starting with a pre-season camp in Austria.

Heggebo set for medical

Heggebo represents an exciting signing for West Brom.

Since breaking into the Brann first team in 2021, the 23-year-old has led the Norwegian outfit from the front.

This season, due to extreme weather conditions, the Norwegian top flight starts in March and ends in November. Heggebo has scored seven goals and provided two assists in just 13 appearances.

And the forward has scored 51 goals since bursting onto the scene, not yet making his debut for the Norway national team.

Quick and two-footed, Heggebo should provide West Brom with a fresh goal threat going forward.

According to Lewis Cox of the Express and Star, Heggebo landed in Austria on Sunday (July 6) and will head to the West Brom training base ahead of his medical.

Following its completion, he will sign his contract and complete the deal.

Going the other way, Mikey Johnston is expected to leave West Brom in the coming days after a deal was agreed with Flamengo for the Irish national.

Johnston reportedly said his goodbyes on Friday (July 4) and will leave the Baggies in a deal worth around £5m.

Heggebo will give Mason another option

West Brom had been linked with a move for free agent Lawrence Shankland earlier in the window,

The 29-year-old ultimately re-signed for Hearts, but Mason has made his demand for a striker clear.

Both Josh Maja and Daryl Dike have struggled extensively with injuries during their time at The Hawthorns.

Heggebo, in comparison, has a clean bill of health, and fans of the Baggies will hope that he can continue that in the Championship.
