‘Karlan Grant finished at The Hawthorns’ as West Brom set to agree transfer

Karlan Grant’s future at West Brom has been up in the air for some time now.

The frontman returned from a loan spell with Cardiff City to notch seven league goals in 43 games last term, but his performances were largely underwhelming, and it is fair to say he is now a shadow of the player he once was.

Grant has been heavily tipped to depart West Brom this summer, with interest mounting from the likes of Stoke City and Derby County, alongside whispers of a possible move abroad.

The 27-year-old has just one year remaining on his current contract, and at the moment, he seems destined to depart the club at the end of that deal.

Grant’s time is up if Heggebo signs

Ryan Mason will be keen to bring in his own players ahead of the upcoming season, and the Baggies have already moved to secure the signing of Nat Phillips after an impressive stint at Derby last time out.

West Brom are now set to sign Aune Heggebo for £4.75million, with the young Norwegian frontman expected to fly into the UK imminently to finalise talks, according to Nettavisen (4 July).

The Brann striker is inexperienced and will undoubtedly be seen as something of a gamble, but there is understandable excitement surrounding his potential move, given that he already has seven goals to his name from just 13 league appearances this term.

With Mason and Co. growing ever closer to landing Heggebo, his arrival will surely spell the end of Grant’s time at The Hawthorns.

The former Huddersfield man was electric in the 2021/22 campaign, when he struck 18 league goals on West Brom’s return to the Championship.

However, his powers have gradually waned since then, and his disappointing form in the latter stages of last season has served as a reminder that he isn’t really good enough for a team who want to target promotion.

West Brom should look to cash in on Grant this summer

Grant’s struggles in front of goal are a large part of why West Brom are so keen to bolster their attack ahead of the new season.

The Baggies badly lacked a goal threat after Josh Maja had his season ended through injury, and that ultimately proved to be a significant factor in their downfall.

That must be addressed if they are to have a hope of reaching the Premier League this season, and that will surely mean further additions than just Heggebo.

Grant’s contract situation means that it isn’t the end of the world if the Baggies struggle to move him on this summer, but they would surely like to collect even a small fee for the striker if they can.

As a result, it makes sense for them to cash in on the interest that is being shown in him, and then reinvest that into the squad, rather than watch him walk away for nothing nbext summer.
