Rio Ferdinand loves where Holgate will play next season after West Brom loan

Mason Holgate struggled during his loan spell at West Brom last season.

Joining from Everton, the defender made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Baggies.

However, many of the 28-year-old’s performances were shaky, with Holgate constantly criticised for his displays.

As a result, he was released by Everton upon the expiry of his loan at The Hawthorns and became a free agent.

Holgate joins Al-Gharafa on a free

With the transfer window heating up, Ryan Mason is looking to take advantage of the free agent market this summer.

West Brom have recently been linked with Jeffrey Schlupp, who has been released by Crystal Palace.

It can take months for a player to find a new club after their contract has expired. However, Holgate was able to quickly find a new team.

Holgate has had two seperate loan spells at West Brom while at Everton

Al-Gharafa announced on X (12 July) that the former Baggies defender had joined the Qatar side on a free.

Former Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand, who is an ambassador and mentor for Holgate’s agency, was quick to react to the news.

He replied to Al-Gharafa’s post on X and said: “Love this.”

West Brom should look at more potential Premier League loans

While Holgate’s loan move to the Baggies clearly didn’t work out, there are still plenty of players available who would be quality additions at the Black Country club.

Mason’s links with Tottenham could help to facilitate moves, with West Brom linked with Will Lankshear.

Quality in depth is one of the most important aspects of any squad that ends up going up into the Premier League.

Players such as the Spurs starlet could end up being the difference-maker this season if the Baggies are to seal promotion and finally return to the English top-flight.

Hopefully, Mason considers this option over the coming weeks as he seeks further additions to improve West Brom’s squad this summer, with the new campaign rapidly approaching.
