West Brom ‘complete George Campbell transfer’ after squad absence

Montreal centre-back George Campbell could soon be announced as a new signing at West Brom this transfer window.

The USA international will be the third arrival at the Baggies this summer after Aune Heggebo’s move to The Hawthorns.

After bolstering their defence with former Liverpool ace Nat Phillips, the Albion look set to add more options for Ryan Mason in their backline.

Campbell transfer being finalised at West Brom after absence from Montreal squad

West Brom are finalising Campbell’s transfer from Montreal this summer, according to GiveMeSport.

The news outlet reports (13 July) that the Baggies are set to complete the 24-year-old’s signing, and he will be joining fellow countryman Daryl Dike at The Hawthorns.

After being excluded from the MLS outfit’s squad to face Orlando City on Sunday (13 July), the American defender is on his way to the West Midlands.

The centre-back previously played for Atalanta United before moving to the Canadian outfit, and it will be interesting to see how he performs at West Brom.

Campbell is arguably making a huge step up from football in the United States to the second division in English football and will undoubtedly need time to settle in.

Mason needs defensive transfers at West Brom this summer

Semi Ajayi’s departure from The Hawthorns made defensive reinforcements an evident priority for the Baggies this summer.

Mason could also lose Torbjorn Heggem, with Serie A club Bologna expressing interest in the Norwegian star.

The ex-Tottenham assistant coach will hope for more business at West Brom in the ongoing transfer window as they hope to win Premier League promotion.

Kyle Bartley and Caleb Taylor are currently the other options at the 34-year-old manager’s disposal at centre-back.

Campbell will surely have to bide his time and prove his worth during pre-season to become a key player for the Baggies ahead of next season.

After struggling defensively under Tony Mowbray, Bilkul Football have evidently focused on bolstering the backline while also reinforcing other areas.
