George Campbell price revealed as West Brom close in on new transfer

Ryan Mason’s West Brom squad is beginning to take shape ahead of his first season in charge.

Alongside Nat Phillips and Aune Heggebo, George Campbell is set to be the latest addition to Mason’s side at The Hawthorns.

With Campbell and Phillips both signing for the Black Country outfit, the Albion’s backline looks to be set ahead of the new season.

The American international is on the verge of signing from MLS side, Montreal.

Campbell price tag revealed

Following Mikey Johnston’s failed move to Flamengo, there were fears that the Baggies would be unable to sign anyone until a substantial sale was made.

But with Campbell, 24, only costing around £1million according to E&S journalist Jonny Drury (14 July), this does not appear to be the case.

Campbell has been linked in previous windows, among several other Championship clubs, but it looks as though now will be the time the American defender ultimately makes the move.

With Campbell himself suffering from hamstring and groin injuries at various points this year, supporters will be hoping he does not have the same fitness issues as his compatriot Daryl Dike during his spell in the Black Country.

Mason has a defensive dilemma on his hands

You would assume Phillips and Torbjorn Heggem would be Mason’s first-choice centre-back partnership going into the opening day of the season against Blackburn in just under a month.

Is it up to Campbell to disrupt this and create a positive impression in the rest of the Baggies‘ pre-season, with the American likely getting the chance to play with his new defensive partners.

With the current MLS campaign currently ongoing, Campbell should already be at full fitness, possibly giving him an advantage over the likes of Phillips and Heggem.

With Kyle Bartley’s future at The Hawthorns uncertain, Campbell is likely to feature at some stage for West Brom next season, but how often the American will start under Mason remains to be seen.
