Carlos Corberan ‘fuming’ as he encounters familiar West Brom problem at Valencia

West Brom were dealt a blow as Carlos Corberan departed midway through last season to join La Liga side Valencia.

Valencia were in the relegation zone when Corberan became their new manager, and he performed miracles to steer them to safety and up the table.

West Brom’s form fell off a cliff after his departure, with Tony Mowbray unable to maintain their push for a play-off spot.

Despite Corberan’s great work in Valencia, he is now frustrated with their board, and this is an all too familiar situation the former West Brom hero finds himself in.

Corberan angry as Valencia sell Cristhian Mosquera to Arsenal

Valencia are in a weak financial position after years of poor ownership under Peter Lim, and are now about to sell star defender Cristhian Mosquera to Premier League side Arsenal.

The centre-back has been a standout performer under Corberan, helping Valencia beat Real Madrid and steadying the defence.

Corberan has not been backed at either club

With one year remaining on his deal, Valencia will sell him to earn a transfer fee, but this has angered Corberan, who wanted to keep the defender despite him rejecting a new contract at the Mestalla.

It has been reported that Corberan is “fuming” with the decision to sell the defender, and there may now be some regret over his move to Valencia.

Corberan not backed at West Brom or Valencia

Some fans were frustrated with the defensive football on display in Corberan’s final few months at The Hawthorns, but his exit made it abundantly clear that this was not out of choice but as a result of a lack of backing.

Had Corberan been backed more in the transfer market, he may have been more inclined to stay with West Brom and may have even led them to the play-offs.

It was claimed at the time of his departure that West Brom’s board were to blame, with just one signing for over £1million last summer, and this did not help Corberan kick on further when the potential for promotion was there.

Corberan now faces a similar problem, in that he could take Valencia even further up the table, but his progress is being stifled by the board’s failure to allow him to spend or keep his best players.
